Depths of field - The different depths of focus can change the way we look at a photo. having a large depth gets everything in focus so we can see the whole image clearly like the top picture on the left taken using F16. Changing the focus depth to a very short field F4.6 to capture the foreground in focus and the background out of focus. This can make the subject stand out and draw the eye straight away.
Through focus - This technique has an object in the way of the subject. keeping the foreground out of focus and the subject clear.
Breaking Edges - Deliberately breaking the rules and only shooting some of the subject such as this example where only half a head has been captured.
Above and Below - shooting a subject from below can give the impression that it is powerful or important. This technique can be used not only on people but on anything such as the house in Psycho where the house has a low angle to make it look more impressive and scary. Shooting from above can give the opposite effect and make the subject look weak and unimportant
Shutter speed - Changing the shutter speed can freeze an image or give it movement. the first picture on the left was taken with a slow shutter speed 1/30 to allow more movement to be captured. This gives the photo movement and allows you to see the action. Having a high shutter speed 1/1000 allows you to freeze an action shot to see it in detail. This technique can be very effective with capturing action that the eye can't see, such as freezing a water fountain like ice.
